What Dimensions and Information Are Needed to Get a Screw-Barrel Quote?

A fast and accurate quotation process for screw-barrel manufacturing depends on providing the manufacturer with complete and correct information. Missing or incorrect information both extends the quotation time and creates the risk that the manufactured part will not fit your machine perfectly. Here is the list of information you should prepare when requesting a screw-barrel quote.

1. Screw Diameter and Length/Diameter (L/D) Ratio

The screw outer diameter (mm) and the ratio of total screw length to diameter (L/D) are the basic dimensions of the set to be manufactured. These values are usually found on the machine's technical nameplate or in the user manual.

2. Barrel Inner Diameter and Length

The barrel's inner diameter and total length are needed so that the pair manufactured together with the screw fits precisely. Removing and measuring the existing barrel is the most reliable method.

3. Machine Brand and Model Information

Brand and model information helps correctly determine details such as the connection flange, drive shaft and heater band dimensions. If the brand/model is unknown, photographs and basic dimensions of the existing screw-barrel can also be sufficient.

4. Type of Raw Material Processed

The type of base polymer such as PP, PE, PA, PVC, and if applicable, filler materials such as glass fiber, calcium carbonate, talc and their ratios, are critically important for selecting the right material and surface coating.

5. Application: Injection or Extrusion?

For injection machines, the check ring assembly and screw tip geometry differ, while for extrusion lines the feed/compression/metering zone ratios differ. Clarifying the application is necessary for the correct design.

6. Wear Condition of the Existing Set and Sample Dimensions

If possible, measurements taken from critical points of the old screw and barrel (screw outer diameter, barrel inner diameter, channel depth) should be included in the quote request. This allows the wear allowance to be calculated correctly.

7. Additional Information for Twin Screws

For parallel or conical twin-screw systems, the center distance between the screws and the gearbox output shaft dimensions are additional information needed for the quote.

Recommendation for a Fast Quote

Even if you don't have all of the above information on hand, photographs of the existing screw-barrel and the machine brand/model are usually sufficient for our technical team to prepare an accurate quote.
